Meet Mayra, EMT
Helping children cope with medical emergencies and other medical conditions has always been a top priority for ProAction Emergency Services Institute (ProAction) alumni Mayra Escudero.
An employee of the Socorro Independent School District, Mayra works in the district nurse’s office, and to make sure she stays on top of her field, she also serves as a teaching assistant and skills instructor assistant for ProAction.
“I love helping kids when they are terrified after an accident that may result in broken bones or just a little scrape,” she said. “I also like helping parents who are worried and dealing with a disease diagnosis for their child. It’s important to help them understand how they can help their child.”
To Mayra, it’s all worth it because being a healthcare worker is very rewarding.
Mayra graduated from high school in Cd. Juárez then moved to El Paso, where she trained as a medical assistant. Her passion for the medical field continued. After a few years, she decided to pursue training as an Emergency Medical Technician at ProAction, where she graduated at the top of her EMT Class.
Mayra highly recommends ProAction to anyone interested in emergency medical care.
“ProAction totally exceeded my expectations,” she said, “I learned so many new things I didn’t know, and it helped me tremendously with my confidence in dealing with patients.”
She also enjoys her role as an instructor, noting that she especially enjoys seeing how students gain confidence after learning and understanding a new skill.
And overall, the best part for her is going home knowing I helped at least one person feel better.
